Well, firstly, only about 10% off the unique users that surf this site each month actually register and use an account. There is a LOT on this site to do besides the message board, and not everyone comes here for that, or wants to take the time to get into it. Furthermore, we do have a fairly active board regardless and a large registered community. But, post volume is kept down because we 1] require people to register and not be anonymous in order to post and 2] because we have real forum moderation unlike other sites and actually maintain a high standard, and an adult, mature community. These two factors alone cause us to have a lower quantity of posts, and we know it, but at the same time our site has much higher quality. And, in our book, that's what really counts.

However, you are correct, the board is busier in the winter because people have much less going on in the cold months. Races, car shows, and other events keep members more busy during the warmer months and so they spend less time on the site. At least that's my opinion.
