IMRC's not functioning
I am posting this on behalf of a friend.
My friend has a 96 GT, with a Sean Hyland Motorsports Stage 1 '99 Cobra motor. After installing the motora couple of months ago, we found out that the motor had 2 problems. (1) A cam tensioner was not functioning and (2) the IMRC's were not opening at high RPMs. Sean Hyland Motorsports did nothing...except told my friend to pull the motor, send it back, and install a new one. But at his own expense. Well last weekend we replaced the cam tensioner and replaced the IMRC actuator which is located under the lower intake manifold. But the IMRC's are still not openeing. I have a feeling that there is a problem in the wiring of the car. We had to use a wiring harness from a 99 Cobra. Here is the strange part: The O/D light is on, but this guy has a 5 speed! I think the EEC is somehow sending the IMRC signal to the O/D sensor instead of the IMRC actuator. Can anyone confirm this? I didn't think the '99 Cobra motor used a IMRC. Let me first confirm that...

Okay, I just made sure I was remembering correctly, and no, a stock '99 Cobra does not have an IMRC. Perhaps the SHM does, but I haven't heard anything about it.
If it does I don't think a '99 wiring harness would work correctly for it, because the stock motor has no provisions for an IMRC. I would think you would need some SHM wiring harness. [This message has been edited by 97snakedriver (edited 05-04-2000).] |
