![]() A spool and a posi unit are two different things. A spool will lock the two axles together, great for traction, bad for corners. A posi unit (ford calls theirs a traction loc) is a set of clutches that provide some of the drive force to both axles. Not as good for traction as a spool, but you can turn a corner with one. Inbetween these is the Detroit locker which is a ratchet device that locks the two axles together under power. In a corner, the outside axle can spin faster than the inside axle and ratchet, so it can still go around a corner. Good traction, but expensive, loud and sometimes binds a bit. Hope this helps you out. I have seen spools and traction loc differentials for the 8 in but don't know if the detroit locker is available. Which one you get depends on what kind of driving you want to do.
