2000GT Convert can it hang with me??
Hey everyone...My girlfriend's dad is getting a new 2000 or 2001 GT convert with 5 speed. Now he hasn't even got the car but is already talking about wiping the floor with me. I know the 99 and up are a little quicker then the past few years but I haven't had the oppurtunity to run one yet. So what is the outcome going to be between us. I expect to win but figure it will be a decent race. Hope to get my new King Cobra clutch in before the race so I don't miss any gears.

My opinion is that your pulleys and exhaust mean it's gonna be a pretty good race. I don't think either one of you is gonna "wipe the floor" with the other one. Let us know what happens. My bet is it'll be close.

With the mods you have, it will probably come down to driving. You may be able to edge the vert since you have a weight advantage.
When I race near stock 5.0s with my '00, 1st gear can be pretty close, with me starting to pull noticeably at the top of second and thereafter. ------------------ 2000GT Atlantic Blue: Cobra R Wheels-17x9 255/40/17, 17x10.5 315/35/17, tubular K-member & control arms, Tokico 5-ways, coil overs, sway bars, strut/shock tower bars, 70mm FMS throttle body, Saleen nose. 79 Pace Car: Maximum Motorsports suspension - H&R Race springs, Bilsteins, rear control arms, chassis bracing, Draglites, 302 w/ Edelbrock Performer intake, cam and 600cfm carb, BBK equal-lengths & H-pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster 2chmbr exhaust, Al Driveshaft, 8.8 trak-loc, TCI C4 w/ 2000 stall, B&M |

The question is can he drive? My friend has a fox with the exact same mods as your car. He hit a 14.6 on a very slick track, I ran a new vert 5spd and only beat him by a hundredth of a second w a 14.41 to his 14.42. He had one mph better than me though. So he was a good 2 tenths quicker than my friends fox. Keep in mind that this is a very slick track. But if your friends dad cant drive or hasnt got used to his new stang yet then you migh win. Good luck and let us know.

I think it'll be a good race. Race him soon after he gets the car and he won't have figured it out yet.....get an intake/MAF/throttle body and then there might be some floor wiping.....BTW, whats with the 19lph fuel pump? I assume you old one died?

Yeah my old fuel pump was whining pretty loud so I decided to upgrade now instead of later on the fuel pump. The 190 lph stands for 190 liters per hour.

3.27 are the gears...
and if that guy can drive the car to its potential he will be a 14.3-14.4... Should be a fun race! |

I don't know, guys. I drove a 2001 GT vert with auto, and it was a dog. Granted it had leather and auto and all the options, and my friend (the salesman is a bud of mine) and my woman with me, but still, it was pretty bad.
And while a a well driven five speed should be much more capable, a hard top 88 GT with gears pullies and ignition should hand it it's *** , in my opinion. Course, until they race, that's all we can offer, is opinions and speculationg, so GO RACE HIM!! ------------------ 95 GT Pulleys, headers, off road, 3.55's, Tremec 3550, Cobra Clutch 14.4's @ 96mph before exhaust Beats auto LS1's after Visit my homepage |

Well, if we are talking horse power the 200GT comes with 260 while the 5.0 with 220.
The 5.0 with all the MOD might just have an extra 30HP so the 2000gt is still ahead by 30hp. "BLUE00GT" I thinks with all the MODS in your car you should be able to smoke any "stock" 5.0 .......................................... 99GT…rear sway bar (adjustable), rear lower control arm, traction bars, tokiko struts illumina 5 position, tokiko shocks, strut tower brace, caster camber plates, racing lower springs, 3:73, underdrive pulleys, micheling "pilot" XGT-ZA. NOW I WILL ADD POWER. |

Rocket - Looks like our mods are pretty similar; now I plan to add the power too.
Basically, my launch is hurting a little with the really stiff suspension, but once I make traction it's definitely no problem to take a stock 5.0 ------------------ 2000GT Atlantic Blue: Cobra R Wheels-17x9 255/40/17, 17x10.5 315/35/17, tubular K-member & control arms, Tokico 5-ways, coil overs, sway bars, strut/shock tower bars, 70mm FMS throttle body, Saleen nose. 79 Pace Car: Maximum Motorsports suspension - H&R Race springs, Bilsteins, rear control arms, chassis bracing, Draglites, 302 w/ Edelbrock Performer intake, cam and 600cfm carb, BBK equal-lengths & H-pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster 2chmbr exhaust, Al Driveshaft, 8.8 trak-loc, TCI C4 w/ 2000 stall, B&M |

It seems to me that both cars have very similar power to weight ratios. So, in this case the gears on your car should give you the win, provided you can hook...

I would have to give a little edge to myself too since I have the gears. I found out he is also getting leather sets which might make it a little heavier. He is also getting a 2001 instead of a 2000 but no difference there so. I know he'll be getting it within the next month so it might be awhile b4 I get to race him. Maybe I can add an electric fan or get my heads ported by then to assure a victory

"BLUE00GT", I also noticed that you and I have about the same MODS, I agree with you that the drive is a bit stiff but I kind of like it that way. I am planning on doing some x-pipes and CAT systems next (what about you?).
I have to convince the wife that this is going to be good for the car and that the car is not going to go any faster. I would like to install a supercharger, I can get it for $4225 installed but you know that you can also put twin turbos in the GT'S. They go for about $6300 installation not included. .............................................99GT… rear sway bar (adjustable), rear lower control arm, traction bars, tokiko struts illumina 5 position, tokiko shocks, strut tower brace, caster camber plates, racing lower springs, 3:73, underdrive pulleys, Michelin “pilot XGT-Z4. Rocket99GT - My next mods will be 3.73s, CAI, BBK long tubes and crossover with cats.
I saw a 99GT at Sears Point with the above mods plus a catback and throttle body with handling suspension run a low 13 (13.3 or .4 I think). Too bad we don't live near each other, it would be nice to take a madman drive on a twisty road with you. I raced my friend with the Integra Type R the other day on some tight backroads for about 20 miles (25mph corners - not too much room to use my acceleration edge), and he hung pretty good but I was able to gain a few cars on him through some of the corners. He even has Eibach racing coilovers too. Now I just want some import drivers to talk sh*t about how a Mustang can't handle so I can show them my *ss on a backroad. |

If you can drive pretty good, you'll beat him. The 3:73's will do the trick. =P
