Post My Summit one wire race alternator arrived

I got my 100amp alternator from Summit today and went to install it, thinking it would be a direct bolt on....NOPE!!
My first problem was that my engine is an early 351W and not a 5.0 for which it was meant for. I am going to have to grind some metal off the lower bracket for the fins to clear it. I also need an inch shorter alternator belt because I have to also move the lower bracket down. The two alternators "look" alike but there are slight differences that require these mods.
Tomorrow I will take my bracket to work and grind it down and try again tomorrow night.
It would be a direct fit for a 5.0

That sucks that you have to modify so much stuff for it to fit your 351, but at least it will fit.
When you get your car running let us know how well it charges/works, etc. Good luck!

I was also kind of disappointed with Summit because it didn't even come with the upgraded power wire. I had to go to the hardware store and buy some #4 wire. I guess that's ok because it only cost me $6 for the wire and connectors I needed.
I'll let you know how it works

I went an installed my alternator tonight after the minor mods I had to make to the lower alternator bracket. It works great!!
I have 14.67 volts at idle. I am not sure how a one wire alternator works but I'm happy! I think Powermaster units are just as good if not better than other hi-amp units because there are post to make it a 3 wire system if you want to so that you can keep interior gauges and lights functioning.
84stangLX, are you going to get one of these units now?
