wanting to buy 92 Mustang GT
hey guys, as you can see im brand new to this forum. i recently (yesterday) crashed my Honda Civic Si (dont flame) and totalled it. now im seriously connsidering getting a 1992 Mustang GT (5 speed), ive ALWAYS wanted one. my question is, what kind of 1/4 times do these cars get stock? where online can i find some good places to buy one? are they reliable? how many miles per gallon? would i have to be replacing parts all the time just to have it on the road? how much do they weigh? sorry for all the questions but im really looking into getting one and i wanna start modding it when i get it. thanks for any help.

Congtrats on your decision to buy a Stang!
tHE ET's for a stock Mustang GT really depend on the mileage and condition of the car but will probably be somewhere between 16-14 seconds. Look in auto trader and on autotrader.com. I looked in both but finally bought a 90 GT that i saw for sale in a resteraunt parking lot. Mustangs do have some minor design flaws (as all cars do) but over all i have found them to be very reliable (i am talking about the 87-93 models by the way). The gas mileage isn't bad for a V8 but will be considerably less than your stock civic. The gas mileage is another thing that depends on the mileage and condition of the motor. As far as replacing parts all the time, the only parts you will most likely have to replace are the ones you want to upgrade, like i said they are pretty reliable. Like just about any performance car, the more time and money you put into it the faster it will go. Good luck finding your car man. ------------------ 90 GT, Red with white racing stripes. 1992 Ford Mustang 5.0 Manual.
225hp@4200rpm 300lb/ft@3200rpm 0-60 6.0 1/4 14.6@97mph Those are estimated times with a good driver, bone *** stock. As far as fuel economy, I get 19-21cty/27-28hwy. Driving 75mph or so gets you the best fuel economy. That'll be a little under 2000rpms in 5th with the stock 2.73 gears. The 1992 5.0 has a 5 star reliability record. They are solid cars, just don't get one that's been messed with by somebody else. You never know what some idiot could have done to it. The fun part is for just a few hundred you can run 13's. For buying, try www.classifieds2000.com and www.autotrader.com and if you're up to the idea, www.ebaymotors.com Those two sites are pretty awesome. Also check with local dealers, they are usually pretty reasonable. If you buy it from a private party you'll find sometimes the car becomes part of the family and the ask a little more than what they are worth. Check back with us for questions, and we'll get you the answers. Good Luck! |

thanks a lot for the replies guys, they were very helpful, and thanks for not being dicks about me owning an Si, most american guys are, to me. yeh autotrader.com is really good, ive already found a nice 92 Mustang GT with 65,000 miles, only $7500, its got a flowmaster exhaust, 373 Gear pro 50 shifter, under-drive pulley, and ram-air. i know these arent major mods but how much hp do u think it would add to a stock 92 GT if any? it didnt say anything about hp, i think its a good find. but its maroon, i wanted black, but oh well, maybe ill paint it.

Don't get too fixated on HP numbers as you need a dyno run to obtain them. Quarter-mile times are more useful judging performance, in my opinion. As for the mods you listed, they are all good ones and very typical for a Mustang 5.0. The 3.73 gears and the PRO 5.0 shifter don't add any HP but they can lower et by two tenths or so due to better shifting and torque mulitplication. The exhaust, pullies and ram-air probably add about 15 HP. HP gains from mufflers are minor and ram-air does little at double-digit speeds but the pullies add 10 HP or so. 65k is low miles for a '92 but the price is a bit steep. If the mileage is real (not altered) and the body is straight (never hit) then it may be worth it. Get a CARFAX report. I would offer $6,500. and settle for a $7,000. selling price, tops. Have the '92 checked out, on a lift, by a qualified mechanic...worth the cost. If the seller objects, keep looking. Don't get all ga-ga over one Mustang; that's how we make bad choices. Good luck. Here is my advice, if you're not forced to, don't settle.
Get what you really want. It may have a few more miles, but the Mustang 5.0 is strong well over 100,000mi. It's not like the GM Fbods. |

unit 5302 i agree, i also found another Mustang that im interested in, its a 1989 GT hatchback with 60,000 miles on it, and it only costs $4500! so thats a lot cheaper for 5000 less miles, and its in a better color, but it doesnt have the mods, but thats ok because i can add those later on. now the hard part, im still 16 so i need my parents to co-sign a loan for me for $4500, but now because of my recent accident i dont know if they will, this sucks, i only have like $300 right now so im not even close to saving up $4500, i need a loan. ****** .

yeah i am 17 and not yet able to drive by myself thx to graduated licensing in the great white north......i must say i'ver driven my dads ram with the 360 and while it goes nicely for wieghing 6600lbs their is nothing like banging through the gears in the 5.0
when u buy 1 u won't regret it at all.... i was debating between an iroc and a 5.0 for over a year and even though i have never driven an iroc i like my choice of the mustang better..... ------------------ Black 1990 gt cobra bonestock not for long |

In Canada all GTs were baged GT Cobra. The only real Fox body Cobra is the 1993 Cobra.
