Exhaust Leak?
I noticed today that my car makes sort of an interesting noise. Sort of sounds like some one is making popcorn under the car. The car runs fine. Done that sound like exhaust leak?
Thanks. |

Could be. Mine sounds something like that. Kind of a airy ticking noise I guess. I think I have a busted cat though. Kinda figured that after I stradled that curb that I didn't see in my way.

Figured it out. Driver side cat. Darn catalytic X-pipe which is about to become to a off road X-pipe.

Hey guy, if it is a Bassani I'll bet they they will back up thier products pretty well. Does it sound like the ceramic stuff on the inside broke apart? What kind of warranty?

Yeah. It sounds like metallic popcorn popping. Apparently this is a common problem with the Bassani pipe. I'm doing some suspension work, so I've got to pull the pipe off anyway. Hopefully I can just talk them into sending me a new cat w/o me having to send them the pipe back. Either that, or I may just hollow them out.
I'm not sure about the warranty off hand, I'll have to call them. Hopefully its like the manditory OEM warranty on pollution control items. |

Yeah. The cars going into shop tomorrow just to make sure. Part of it depends on how coopertive Bassani is. It would be great if they would just send me a new cat, but I've heard they can difficult, requiring you to send the whole pipe back...

Aww, you can run it without the pipe for a few days, can't you?

Geez, it couldn't sound any worse.
You can't hear it when you are driving unless you listen for it, and I always have the stereo playing. I just happened to be driving though a drive though, and was "What the flock is that?" I thought it was the hoopty mobile infront of me. But nope, turned out I was the hoopty mobile. |

$80.
They wanted me to take the pipe off and send it to them, so they could inspect it, deny the warranty and send it back, at my expense... But they are happy to sell me a new cat for $80. |
