![]() I'm gonna bite the bullit and get a set of Drag Radials so I can really hook. I got prices on a couple tires and was looking for opinions. I have 245/50/16's all around now (Nitto 333 Extremes), I just bought last fall. I wanted to go with the widest tire I could fit on the stock Pony rims and the local tire shop said I could get 255/50/16's in the BFG D/R for $150 each plus install and Nitto 555's D/R in a 245/50/16 for $132 each plus install. I like the Nittos, I've heard nothing but good things but would like to have a little wider tire back there as well. Anybody have an opinion?

![]() I like the Nittos. Even with the tiny bit of width you'll be losing I think your car will hook a helluva lot better. Besides, 255s on a stock pony wheel will be a bit overkill. Those things are 7.5" or 7" wide, right? A 240 tire will give you better handling than a 255 on that size wheel since the sidewall won't flex in hard turns. But that's me. You could also find some 240s for the front and 255s for the rear if you want...just stick with one brand while you do it. Rotating tires won't work but it'll look cooler and hook better.

![]() i run the nittos. they last longer on the street. ive tryed bfgs. both are great. the differences are how you use them. the bfgs hook good when there cold. the nittos need to be burned out on pretty good to get sticky. this is how they get higher milage. but if you do to many burn outs on them the will wear out fast. the nittos are awsome in the rain. the best tire ive ever been in on the rain. the 245 size will give beter side wall geomitry creating beter contact patch.

![]() I am wondering the same question. I am looking at getting an extra set of 10 holes to mount some drag radials on and couldn't decide between the 2. I can get a deal of the BFG's since my wife works for Wal Mart, but I think the Nitto's will still be cheaper. Which would be better for the track, and tearing around town from time to time?

![]() From my testing the Nitto's don't work near as good as the BFG in a street race or normal drag racing I came to this conclusion when Ezridn got a set of 235/60/15 BFG for his stang and I got a set of 245/50/16 for my stang both stangs sported mac upper and lower control arms with the rest of the susp. being stock but with my car making a extra 75-100hp or so. His stang hooked a lot harder than my car both on the street and the strip, now granted I did not heat up the nitto's very much but I did heat them more than Ezridn and in the end we were within about 1k miles of total use out of them.
But wait theres more the Nittos WILL out handle the BFG and the Nittos kick the $hit out of the BFG in the rain. But this year I will be ordering the BFG 255/50/16 for my stang because the final results of are test are that the BFG plain out hook the Nitto's P.S. Neither of these tire hook at all on cold pavement in fact regular comp T/A (VR4)work better on cold pavement the either drag radial ------------------ 1991 Lx sedan 5.0, 5spd, GT-40 Heads, Cobra intake, 73MM mass air, 65mm TB, FPR, 24lb injectors, E303, Headers, off road H-pipe, Flows, K&n , hurst, 3:55's, pullies, etc... ![]() Thanx for the comparison test results Sedanman. I can get the BFG's for about $120 or so a piece, and so when I get the cash, I think I will pick up a set. They'll mainly be loaded up in the back of the car and taken to the track, and in the summer, put on the car to go out looking for trouble. Appreciate the help.

![]() Good choice with the Nitto's. YOU HAVE TO BURN THE HECK OUT OF THE THOUGH! Really, you need a good 6-8 second burnout. I do mine in 2nd gear (w/ 3.73's). I bring the revs up to about 3500-4000 depending on outside temps, and pretty much dump the clutch. Slipping it results in 1.98-1.99 60's, dumping it gives constant 1.91-1.92. this is in a 3700+lb convertible with 100% stock suspension. The car will squat, the motor will slightly bog, then the suspension unsprings, the tires give a slight chirp, then I'm grabbing 2nd! These tire hook extremely well, but like I said, you need to burn the crap out of them. I got my set last August, and went to the track every week until it closed in Oct, I made roughly 4 passes a week. I have over 10K miles on them now, and they still have plenty of tread left. Like it was said above, when the roads are damp, they hook better than any tire I ever had, but if there is any depth to the water, you might as well forget it- but this is to be when running such a tire with so few tread cuts.
P.S.- I personally found running 17-18lbs of air in them works best for me, but I know of a lot of people that run them at lower pressures. ------------------ 95 GT convt' 5 speed, 3.73's,FMS HD clutch, Pro 5.0 shifter, ASP alum. underdrive pulleys, Bassani offroad X pipe, 2 chmbr flowmasters, K&N w/o silencer, edelbrock performer intake, FRPP 65mm T-body, FRPP shorty headers, FRPP aluminum driveshaft.Hooker 4pt chrome car bar, Xenon/Wings West ground effects, custom interior Best ET: 13.83 Best MPH: 98.55mph with Best 60': 1.91 on Nitto DR's Homepage: <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/killercanary" TARGET=_blank>http://www.angelfire |

![]() I think I got about 15k out of them and I did not heat them up (burn out) very much I did a lot of normal driving on them it gets to the point that you forget you have them except for when you get in a race from a stop you will get a free one car head start because of how good they hook.

![]() So wait.
When you say there good in the rain do you mean good for Drag Radials or good for a set of tires? I live in Miami Florida and most of the time down here it gets pretty wet so I need a good wet tire. |

![]() When I said they hook good on damp roads, I meant that they were better than any street tire I have ever owned, but don't mistake me, they don't go well in the rain, meaning if there is any depth to the water on the road, the rear will slide everywhere. But if the roads are just damp, then they hook extremely well.
