Post Removing Convertible Top

I ordered a new latch for the top on my 92 GT and in order to put it in, the top has to come off at least in the front right corner. I also noticed some parts rattling up there that i can tighten up, but not without taking the top off in the front half. I tried figuring it out myself, but I have no idea how the top canvas comes off. Has anyone successfully done this? Does it go back on easy?

Thanks!

There's a cable that holds the top tight to the frame. If you disconnect it at one end, you should be able to make the top loose enough to get in to remove the latch. Then you just put your top down half way to take out the slack. Unfortunately it's still pretty frozen up here so I can't get any pictures to send you.

I pulled my latch off last summer to fix an elongated hole that caused it to not clamp very tight.

Can you try to discribe where this cable is? I can't seem to find it.

Okay, I got some pictures.

The cable here goes all the way back to a spring just behind the track of the little rear window. You can use a small flat screwdriver to separate the little clip holding the cable and then slide the cable out. This should loosen up the top enough to allow you to get the latch out.

Hope these help.

from everything that i have seen you dont want to try to remove a top unless you have the stuff to put it back on ,a big *** staple gun and a steamer. there are a ton of staples that hold the top on and if you did get it off it must be steamed to get it to fit over the frame right. i think that super ford did a thing on it a few years ago.
