Default 93 Cobra Cam?

Is the 93 Cobra cam that comes stock with the motor any different than a stock 5.0? Just curious thanks.

The Cobra cam has a slightly higher duration than the H.O. cam.

.282 intake and exhaust vs. .278 intake and exhaust

However, the Cobra cam also has a slightly lower duration than the H.O. cam.

270 intake and exhaust vs. 276 intake/266 exhaust

There are a number of changes in the event phasing as well along with a decrease in overlap and and increase in lobe center.

This cam was designed specifically for the Cobra GT-40 motor and its components. While it produces less overall horsepower than the H.O. cam, it offers more bottom-end torque, a smooth, stable idle, and reduced hydrocarbon emissions. It was also phased into production in the '93 Thunderbird/Cougar V-8 and was used in the '93 Cobra R, the '94-'95 Cobra and the '94-'95 Australian Falcon.

keep the stock cam with the mods you have, i would invest in some pulleys or save your money until you can do intake and heads. But if you really feel like messing with the cam, i would just install 1.7 roller rockers for now.

Default Cool Deal

I have some pullies just havn't installed them yet, just have heard good and bad about them.Plus the altenator pully looks like a pain to install..I am also trying to find an Explorer Gt 40 setup. No luck yet. For future mods i am looking for 373's, 1.7 rockers, heads , kinda scared with that install..Not sure what else i can do with it.Considering i will have my new son in it in about 9 weeks, i don't want to go too overboard. What would you do?
Thanks

The thing about 1.7 roller rockers is that you have to look into your future. Are you wanting to get pretty aggressive with this car at some point? The 1.7's work great with the stock cam and a few aftermarket cam profiles, but you are a bit limited in your cam selections in the future.

I'd hold off on the cam until you put on your heads. Once you decide which head you are going to use, then get some advice on cam selection so you can match the flow characteristics of the heads. Until then, it's not really going to help you beyond a few horsepower and a different sound.
