I must have aged over the winter because little thing lke this did not bother me last year. Anyway, My car has a slight bucking or surging problem when cruising in gear. It runs like a raped ape when I am on the gas, but at cruising speeds it acts up a little, and when I use the engine as a brake even as low as 2200 RPM it pops out of the exhaust more than before. The car also smells pretty strong of exhaust.

I am guessing that I am running too rich off idle for some reason. The only change I have made to the car since before the problem was switching from a GT-40 intake to a Holley Systemax. Thanks, Rob |

I was experiencing a mild bucking problem while cruising that turned out to be my TPS. It had a couple of worn spots on it, and when I had the throttle there, the ECM got a corupt signal. It's easy to check. Disconnect the TPS from the harness, and attach a DMM with a bargraph (I use my Fluke 88) to the green and black wires at the TPS. Set the meter to ohms, and slowly rotate the throttle while watching the bargraph. Mine would climb smoothly until it hit a bad spot. Then it would "dance" all over the place until I passed that spot in the throttle travel. This may not be the problem, but it's easy to check. Other than that, I would suggest checking your fuel pressure under different conditions. Check for bleed down, too. The needle on the tester gauge shouldn't move for at least 1 minute after shutting off the engine. What do the plugs look like?
