Default pinion bearing

My Mom's awd areostar blew the pinion bearing and seal lastnight
its a 8.8 rear with 3.73's but I've never had to reaplace or repair anything from the pinion part of a rear end when i changed my gear's everything stayed in and was in fine shape.

I have two problems first I'm not sure what caused it to go.

second I'm not sure what type of damage to expect when i open it up tommorrow.

besides the bearing cup spacers bearings themselves and the seal of course what should i expect to replace . can this be fixed normally with the pinion still in the diff ?

I'm thinking remove the drive shaft and diff pinion put the diff back in dive it ti the garage as a front wheel drive.

any suggestions ? any idea on the labour for this ?
