Default Help!! Starter problem.

Well, I'm in a predicament. I'm in Arizona, and I have to be back in Cali for work tomorrow.

The problem is that my starter would not start the car when it was hot, and my wife told me to just go ahead and get the hi torque one. Well, now I'm kinda stuck because it's all installed and wired up, but it doesn't engauge the flywheel. If I turn the key, I hear it spinning, but it doesn't touch the flywheel at all, so it's just sitting there "whirring" at nothing. Does this sound like they sold me a crappy starter, or did I wire it wrong? I took the one wire that was previously going to my stock starter, and moved it from the switched side of the fender solenoid, to the battery side of it. The bottom end of it is connected to the starter solenoid. Then Using a 12- gauge wire, I connected the switched terminal to the starter solenoid. There is a blade type connection on the starter solenoid. Am I supposed to be using that for something? Please let me know what you think.
