Default 331 cu. in. Stroker

Well, after debating whether to get a ProCharger or a new motor, the motor has won out. The ProCharger will hopefully come next year or the year after that. Here's what I'm building:

DSS 331 cu. in. stroker kit:

- 4340 Forged Steel Crank 3.25"
- 4340 H-Beam Rods 5.315"
- Twisted Wedge, Flat-Top Pistons (by Coast aka Probe Industries)
- Federal Mogul bearings
- Plasma-moly (ductile-iron) rings (for future blower)
- 7 qt. Canton Deep Sump Oil Pan & pickup
- Melling high volume oil pump
- DSS Main Support System
- DSS Windage Tray
- ARP everything
- 9.1:1 compression

I will be using my stock 39,000 mile block. It will be going to the machine shop this week for hot tanking, checked for cracks, bored, honed, and the kit will be balanced to 28 oz.

Not having any experience with building motors, and not wanting to screw-up and wasting money, I am having the motor built by Fox Builder and his good friend Rich. Rich has built race motors for 18+ years and races in trophy stock class. The motor is being built for future boost, so, although I will be sacrificing power now, it should be a strong running blower motor.

We will be using my Trick Flow TW's which flow 272 on the intake and 206 on the exhaust. My Steeda #19 cam will be re-used as well. Overall lift will be .516"/.516" with 220/226 duration and 115 lobe separation. I have a set of Energy Suspension motor and tranny mounts on order and am in the process of having my JMS chip re-burned for the 331.

We should have everything built and ready to go in 3 weeks or so. I will keep everyone posted on how things progress.

All the parts arrived yesterday afternoon via UPS.

The pistons look awesome. They are Probe's Sportsman Race Series pistons with the TFS TW valve relifes - very nice. Everything else looks complete, but I will have to run over to JEGS to get a set of cam bearnings and a couple other miscellaneous items that didn't come with the kit.

I am really excited now - it's finally getting started!

Let me know how that works out. I've had my DSS 331 stroker kit at my house all winter. I just don't have time to put it in. What cam are you thinking on going with? The steeda??? Have you researched any others? Remember, cam will make or break your combo. Let me know how that cam works out and see if you can get some dyno numbers I'm interested to see where my 331 will land me. You are going blown right? Wow I smell 600rwhp if that thing is tuned good.

Just bought a nice forged 331 stroker kit for a new block that should be ready to take 650hp of abuse.

Piston - I'll keep you and others updated on the progress. The plan is to stick with the Steeda cam for now. It's actually a pretty good blower cam with decent idle, and good mid range power. The lobe separation of 115 is nice for the blower and duration is 220/226. Lift will be .516"/.516" which will work out well I believe.

With about 10-12 psi of intercooled ProCharged boost, it should be a real screamer. I have to be careful not get too crazy with the boost as I'm relying on a stock block. However, I did purchase the DSS Main Support System which is made from 6061-T6 aluminum, which is very strong, ligthweight and has just enought 'give' to it to allow for harmonics to absorb and keep everything together.

In addition to the blower will be some sort of engine management system, probably the PMS.

The kit is getting balanced and block work done starting tomorrow or Monday.

I just noticed you went with the low compression and blower. I went with the high compression and a possible blower future. I did this because Rick Anderson loves high comp and blowers. I put my faith into that guy to tune my car from previous experience. Since you in ohio if you buy the PMS get it dyno tuned over there. I'm telling you I got lot more power out of my baby after one visit down there. It was great spanked an SS ls1 on the way back mulitple times. All the way up to 130mph. It was great.

Eric, I cant wait to help you get that bad boy installed! Did Rich decide to use the rockers I gave you? If you need any help with anything let me know. I was wanting to take my baby to the track tomorrow (friday) but it is looking like rain. I'll give you a call in the A.M.

Mike

Yeah, we are going with the 1.72's. Thanks for letting me have them! I definitely owe you one or two or three!

I dropped off everything at Fowler's this morning. They will be preping the block, balancing the kit, and everything else.

I'm heading over to JEGS on my lunch hour to pick up a new Fluidamper 28oz balancer, then running it over to Fowler's.
