Default My Crazy 4th of July Mishap!

Ok - what happened to me last night on 4th of July night is almost unbelievable everyone. Early in the day I decided to jack up the back of the Mustang so that I could drop down my fuel pump/filter assembly in order to change my fuel filter. I took my fuel system down and out of the car, and decided I'd put it back together later in the evening when it cooled down.

After that, we had a pretty good holiday... We BBQ'd and went swimming, and all that stuff. Afterwards, around 9 PM, I decided to go back out into the garage and bolt the fuel system backup so I could fire up the Stang and go for a cruise later. I got everything finished, and so I slid myself out from underneath the Mustang so I could drop it back to the ground. However, as I stood up I also started to turn (or rotate my body on my legs). When I was in the middle of doing this all of a sudden I felt, and heard, a big pop in my knee! Holly crap it hurt, and I dropped to the floor in some serious pain!

So, I laid there grabbing my right knee almost in tears trying for the life of me to figure out what I could have possibly done to have my knee explode into such pain. Any ways, I ended up trying to walk on it after several minutes and it hurt bad. I simply could not put any pressure on my leg, or for that matter hardly even move it. I then decided I had obviously somehow done something serious to it and went to the hospital...

As it turns out, what I did was twist my knee with just the right amount of pressure the wrong way and popped my knee cap out of place. It then either bruised or damaged the tissue/ligament on the front left side of my knee cap. They did ex-rays, but it had already popped back into place. They said that it most likely did so when I tried to walk on it. They ended up wrapping my leg and putting a big brace on it to immobilize my knee. They also prescribed to me 800 mg Motrin pills and Vicodin.

I am now basically a gimp! They said I can't use my leg for at least 3 days. I'm also supposed to go to my doctor too on Monday, and I'll probably have to go see a bone specialist too. This is just crazy! Can you believe I did this just standing up from underneath the Stang?! Shhheeeeesshhh!

So your knee wanted to put on it's own fireworks show, huh? Damn, Dan, that sounds plenty painful to me! Sorry to hear it!!! but hey, look at the bright side, now you'll have plenty of time to do all those things to MW that you've been talking about! Okay, so maybe it's not a bright side, but I only have so much to work with here!

Hope you feel better soon!!!

Take care,
-Chris

Shitty luck buddy, I would give you one of my knees but you ain't want them. They are pretty messed up and I'm only 17 (18 in October), aslong as I keep both of them I'll be happy, once you go stick you don't want anything else.

Thumbs down That SUCKS!

Hey Dan,
Sorry to hear about your knee!!!! That really bites. Guess as we get 'older' things like that happen! LOL!
If it makes you feel any better, when I sprained my ankle last month, It has not healed. Its still real swollen and It hurt like hell when I was dragging my luggage from airport to airport on Sunday...I'm wondering if i didn't fracture or tear anything....(Dont worry Sky, I"m not gonna sue you!!!!! )
If you dont want the drugs they gave you, I'll take them off of your hands! hehehehe.......
Take Care, and stay off your leg for a few days.....Hope you feel better soon! Christine TNT

Dude I hate to laugh, but you are becoming an old MAN! Heehee. Seriously though, I have done some bad damage to my knees and it does hurt! Take care and don't do any serious activities for a while. (Like standing up ) You probably won't be able to kneel on it for a while so take it easy and ice it!

Feel better Dan!

Unhappy Bad knee on the fourth of July

Dan:

Wow! Sorry to learn of your pain and suffering with the dislocated knee, and just from a little twist, too!

These things happen.

I have a friend who screwed uop his back - permanently - from doing pretty much the same thing you did; just turning the 'wrong' way while attempting to just stand up.

Weird - and obviously painful.

Best wishes for a quick and total recovery.

That sucks, I felt your pain as I read your story. I had to have part of my kneecap taken out a couple years ago.

Dan,
I can say I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!!
About 2 months ago I was moving stuff around in my daughters bedroom and I went to pick up her vcr off her bed and set in the tv stand. I did not have to move just twist around as the tv stand is close to the bed. Well in doing so I stretched and ripped my front left ligament(medial collateral ligament) and ripped the crap out of the cartlidge(sp?) in my right knee. Still today a few month's later I still have a problem with it. I can barely run/jog and once in a while have a problem walking up stairs.

Hope your recovery goes better then mine is.

Thanks to everyone for your condolences... I don't know what the big deal is about the Vicodin, they don't seem to do much to me...

Knee feels a little better though today now that I've been off it for a couple days. Hopefully I'll be walking again soon...

I feel the same way, I have had vicodin, percaset and other pain killers I can't remember and none of them did much for me, except for morphine. Morphine is good stuff, great for pain and makes the time fly by.
