Calling all auto techs
I am considering going through a local community college in their auto tech program. Cars are my main interest, I think I could do well in this field. But, on the other hand most of my auto experience has been modifying vehicles and I realize that most of the work in the industry, is fairly routine maintenance and repair. I guess what I really want to know is there any money in it, and what to expect in the work enviroment.

Done right, the income potential is unlimited. Most cc classes have a connection with local dealerships, and the better students are often invited to start work at a dealership. Today's technology is changing so fast, techs that know how to work on the newer vehicles are in high demand. Take the classes, ask a lot of questions, and take as many ASE cert tests as you can handle. You will be able to write your own ticket when it comes to future earnings.
Take care, ~Chris

its true that some mechanics make a lot of money, but they are very very talented and tend to have their own businesses, etc...to make above and beyond enough int his field you need time, knowledge and a lot of skill....study hard! hehe....

Actually, that's not really true. As a business owner, I can tell you, you'll make more money sooner being a tech. The equipment needed to run a business is extremely expensive, and most owners don't start making money until 10 or 15 years into it. A good tech get's to go home after 8 hours, too!
Take care, ~Chris
