Default 347 VS 351W CI, any preference?

I am looking for a 351W and/or a 347 stroker kit but
i have a lot of difficulties to choose.

I know however that the 351 is 125 pounds heavier.

My question is simple, which motor will give me the
lowest ET on the 1/4?

The 351 would be faster as long as you slect the right heads/cam. It is much stronger then a 347 and will take more power.

go with the Windsor since the aftermarket has a lot more parts for it.

The 347 is as stroked as it can go, a 351 is a starting point. You can stroke a 351 out to a 408. If your looking for the most you can get out of a motor I think the 351 is a better way to go, but the trade off is the PITA of converting to a different block. I'd like to go to a 351 setup myself someday.

I know that the 351W has more potential and
can be stroked.

However i can t afford a 351 stroked motor
and all the parts needed to fit it ... but a stock 351
i can!

That s why i want to know which motor pull more between
the 347 and the 351W...

Thanks for helping

The 351 is going to be heavier than the 347, and therefore slower (in the short run). But if you get some money in a year or two you can still stroke the 351, the 347 is already maxed out. If your on a tight budget you might want to stick with the 347 because you wont have the added cost of converting. What kind of power are you trying to make, it might be easier to answer your question if we knew exactly how fast you want to go.

A stock 351 with stock heads and cam are not going to be as fast as a 347 stroker.....but....longevity wise the 351 will hold up tons longer and when ya get heads and cam or a power adder....theres no comparison with the 347....As the old saying goes.."there is no replacement for displacement" ie:more cubic inches is better.

With the factory and sportsman block, you can stroke/bore it to 427 ci.

The SVO can be stroked/bored to 454 ci

the only real diffrence in price is the block and intake even if you have a 302 you need a crank pistons rods etc (to go to 347) a good 351 from the wreckers for $50.00 more you have a better starting point same heads throttle body injectors diffrent headers but hey you would upgrade with the 347 right. the distributor is the hard thing to find . i also have had luck porting a 351 lower and going with a box upper.

you also have your 302 still

just my $.02 bill

Talking

I have just started my 351W project for my 91 coupe/AOD. From the information I have gathered, the expense is about the same when it comes to building a 347 vs 351W. Yes you do have to change headers etc but in the long run you will have a stronger, faster car if you do your project in stages. I am going to run some Rousch 200 heads because everybody thinks they are windsor Sr heads with more work. You got to look out into the future and decide what your goals are going to be for your project.

Thumbs up I vote 351W

I vote 351W,I did not read all the post except the first one and I will say this,a 347 is right at the ragged edge as far as a 302 block goes, yeah 347's can make tremendous power no doubt, but what is the trade-off reliability that is the trade off.

I know we are comparing a 347 to a 351 but remember this it takes a 302 to rev to 6500rpm to make the same power as a 351W revving to 5800rpm,rpm's cost reliability, much as I like hearing a small block rev to the moon it hurts in the long run.

Get a 351 lot of companies out there right now sell oil pans, exhaust, pulleys, everything needed for a conversion so it is not hard.

Just remember this combo is what makes power,if you get either one 347 or 351 make sure you get a well balanced combo, stay away from the bigger flow numbers is better, and you will be alright either way you go. Just my 2 pennies.
