Post Getting gears installed tomorrow...big difference?

Well, the big day is just about here..... tommorow I get the gears. I am going with FMS 3:73's, I think my stock ones are 2:73's. How much of a difference are they gonna make? Am I gonna be smiling all the way home, or am I gonna be pissed that I wasted my money? Thanks

You'll have to wait a while before you start smiling. You have to break them in first. You have to drive for about 10 miles and then let them cool for 30 minutes. Do this about 3 times. Then go for some long highway cruising.

After that, you can probably start getting on it a little. That's when the happiness will settle in. Getting used to the way you shift will take a while, though. It's been a week for me and I'm still trying to get used to them. I went with 3.55s.

I really hope it's a big difference. That damn Fcam stole my low end torque, and I am praying to god these gears will gain a little back. I'll tell ya, it's gonna be AWFULL hard driving home like an old man...but I'll do it. I can't wait to go to the track and see what my car can do...never raced before.

Just my opinion & experience, but when the smile wears off and time passes(with whats in your sig.),you may wish you went with the 4.10's. Oh,btw, say goodbye to lowend torq. loss. One more thing, that F303 cam is a very good choice.........Reggie

Let me tell you, the gears are the best thing you can do for a car with 2.73s. I put on a set of MAC shorties the same day of the 3.73 install. Ear to ear grin as I first pulled hard with the new gears in while smelling the production coating on the headers burning off. A truly beautiful moment
