Default truck staying on?

My friend has a Ford F100 with the 300 inline six. After he's been driving for a while and shuts the truck off it will keep sputtering and running for a few second afterwards. The temp guage is fine. Any comments why it does it?

if he dont want to set the timing, just tell him to turn it off while it's in gear, lol.

Tell him to gas it before he cuts power, should make a nice big boom. My datsun used to do that sometimes, I messed with the idle mix and timing, never had a gauge for either one.

Man did that thing smoke.

My older 8 cylinder engines had a solenoid on the carb right at the idle adjustment cam. This solenoid allows the carb butterfly to close completely at ignition shut-off. If it isn't working properly, the butterfly stays open a smidgen and allows the engine to diesel.

It has one wire running to it. Check and see if the 6 has one. If so, confirm it works , then adjust it as per the manual.

My old 4 cyl always did that, I had to bost up the octane to at least 89, with oct boosters. I did everthing else, and it still did it, but when I switch fuel, it stopped.

Maroon 5.0 LX is the closest. There are several factors that contribute to this problem, but the one that matters is the throttle not closing all the way. Have your friend try adjusting the idle, or installing a stronger throttle return spring.

Take care,
~Chris
