Post Air/Fuel Ratio gauge

I have done my homework on this topic, and have come to the conclusion that 90% of you guys have nothing good to say about A/F ratio gauges (at least over on the Corral). ALL I want to do is know that I am not lean at WOT, that's it. I don't wanna tune with it, I only want it to be sure I don't have a lean condition. My question is: Will the Autometer A/F Ratio gauge do the job I want it to, will it tell me if I am running lean at WOT?? Thanks

It will be fine for WOT, I read my plugs that is the only true way to see how it is running.

Thumbs up

I have the A/F gauge and mine works nicely. I had a vacuum leak before and I noticed on the gauge it was running really lean, so lean my plugs were turning white. My friend found the leak and we fixed it and the gauge went back to normal. It's only good at full throttle or under load, cruising around it fluctuates like mad, but this is normal. I like mine and it also looks cool.

I agree with smokedchevy
The one I have looks cool, and is pretty functional, it helped me when I was messing with fuel pressure combos.

At idle does your gauge bounce around? When I start it, it's lean for a bit, then as the rpms go down a bit when it's idling, I dont get a reading anymore until I drive. We spliced into the 2 EEC wires for the 02s, and ran them to a 3 way toggle. But when I switch from the left to right, the readings look exactly the same, like it isn't reading 2 different sensors. So I dunno what the hell is going on.

it bounces around big time, but that's normal, the gauge really only works at WOT (wide open throttle)
Good idea with the switch!

can someone tell me what the plugs would look like for a lean condition? I checked one of my plugs yesterday and it had a little brown/white on it. Is this normal? Also, should I check all the plugs or would one plug tell me about all cyliders? Thanks.

The guage will bounce around as the computer is constatntly componsating for changing conditions. That is what the o2 sensor does is give feed back to the computer regurding fuel mixture so id adds or deletes as nesecary. under light load conditions it is hard for it to find the exact amount of fuel required as injector on time is already very little a few milliseconds. so it will go up and down constantly. So it can be used for tuning etc as that is what the stock computer uses it for. You also have to remeber that most O2 sensors are heated so they do not give acurate results until there internal heater has got them upto 600 degrees.

For you guys who have the gauge: I know the left HEGO is pin 43, and the right HEGO is pin 29. Should I splice into the HEGO ground pin 49, or just a chassis ground? Thanks
