Unhappy Horrible Horrible 2 Weeks In MO

Well in the past 2 weeks 7 people have died in either racing or just driving fast in cars. And wrecks eveywhere!

Two 16 year olds in HS were doing around 85-90 in a 2001 Eclipse GT when they lost control and collided with an SUV. The driver and front passenger in the eclipse died. The third kid survived but couldnt even get out of the car.

Also two guys in two seperate cars and also in seperate races flipped and mangled their cars. They both died.

In Illinois not to far from my house and 17 and i think 15 or 16 year old were speeding and went airborn into a trailer. And they both died too.

And just a few days ago a 24 year old guy wrecked his 300ZX on the highway. The car was ripped in half and he also died.

A mustang 5.0 hatchback was racing on a popular street racing strip and his NOS backfired and blew his entire front end of the car off. He was ok but his car isnt.

Last night while eating at Denny's there was a motocycle accident right in front of it. 4 people were taken to the hospital in strechers. I dont know if thay all survived.

And this morning while taking my mom to work there were 2 wrecks in the same intersection. A moderate fender bender and and newer model Jimmy flipped and rolled off the entrance ramp to the highway. An oncomming car failed to yeild at the sign and hit the Jimmy. I think they were both ok.

Its really sad that these people all died in this short of time frame. I didnt know them but It really got me thinking about the way I drive knowing that could have been me. Its a real wake up call. About half of those guys were still in high school...they havent even lived!

To anyone who read this (and my prayers to anyone who didnt) just know that you and nobody is invinsible (sp?) never let your guard down....and Control is just an illusion(sp?).

yeah that does stink.

as for control is an illusion. not really true. i understand you cant see everything, but should be aware of everybody else on the road. a driving/racing school teaches you techniques in the everyday world to prepare you for incident may happen. SCCA is a great place to learn these values. not every accident can be avoided, but you can make them considerable less if you are one hell of a driver.

so how you doing?

I can see we'll get along quite splendidly.

It sucks to hear of so many sensless deaths. Out here in LA there were 13 homicides in 4 days in a 10 mile radius. Somethings you just cannot explain or try to understand.

Be careful out there.

Along with my mustang I have a gixxer. I've been riding for about 3 1/2 years now and every year I watch kids come out and have these brand new 900rr bikes and just have no control. It's so sad, because most are so young and have the rest of their lives. Gotta be smart! Don't get me wrong I love speed and power, but I have control.

'Power is nothing without control' was an old Perilli tire ad campaign. I've just never heard anyone else use that as a statement.

As far as the bikes, there is a backroad that I ride here that see's probably 3 bike accidents a month. I've dropped a bike on the road before, and almost went off a cliff another time. Never told anyone about the second. Ride a lot smarter than I used to, which makes riding out here less fun.

Your bike the 600 or 750?

Actually, it was highway 33 between New Cuyama and Ojai. Middle of freaking no where. I'd have been dead a week before anyone found me.
