Default 408w

Had my 408W chasis dynoed last fall in my 69 mach1, here are the specs, new motorsports block, 4 yrs ago, 4.030 bore, coast high stroker kit all steel, think there dominator kit, hy roller lunati pt number 51014 276 286,218 228,536 536,112, cast sr heads cnc ported,1.6 lunati rollers, stealth port matched to heads, 750 Biggs HP DP, 1\3\4 supercomps, msd6al, x-pipe into 2 chamber flows, into 2.50 ex, 3.50 posi, c-4 full manual JPT, 2500 11''stall, made little over 300 rwhp, about 380ft lbs@3100, airfuel ratio@3000 is 12.7,5900 is12.1, i know this motor was built on the mild side, great street car with all that torque, i got a quote for vic jr heads stage 2, vic jr manifold flowed to heads, and much bigger cam, said it would get over 400ft lbs and 500 hp between 2500 and 5500, im thinking port my heads, up the cam and maybe stay with the stealth for low mid range, some strip, what should i do, just dont want to lose the good torque down low with bigger duration cam.

That may very well be the longest sentence I've ever read in my life, but either way, cool engine! 300 rwhp from a 408 is pretty mild, but I bet it's still a ton of fun on the street. With bigger heads and a more agressive cam I'm sure you will be much happier with it.

Someday I'll have a 408, someday....

Don't worry about low end torque with a 408. You are choking the hell out of that big motor! You need your heads ported by a professional, Edelbrock Victor jr. port matched to the heads and a larger HR cam.
I have a 408 in my car with an Edelbrock Victor jr., Canfield
stage II heads and a HR Crane cam with 244in 256ex duration at 0.050 Lift. The car is a torque monster! I can spin the tires in third gear @60-70MPH with a T-5, just by nailing the throttle. I definitely have plenty of torque; my cars best sixty foot to date is 1.315 on the motor!.....James
