Default Clutch ???

My 88GT has a hard clutch. Is there an advantage to a hard clucth over a soft one?
How do I get this clutch to be soft?
(by hard I mean I have to exert a lot of pressure to put it in)
I have a back problem that may cause me to change out the clutch or go automatic.

It's just the way they came from the factory with a cable clutch instead of hydraulic. You can have a different clutch installed... I put in a Ford Racing King Cobra clutch witch is has a HEAVY DUTY pressure plate and SIGNIFICANTLY cuts down the amount of force needed to push in the clutch pedal. There are other clutches out there many people on this forum will scream Centerforce for one. There is also Clutchmasters which are very good (midpriced between king cobra and centerforce. I paid $200 for my clutch but they can be found cheaper.

enjoy
