Question How knows??

I have a vibration in the engine of my '72 Grandé. At a local USA car garage they told me that there was something wrong with the 'flex disk' it should be located between the engine and the transmission. I own a repair manual and I can't find anything which is comparable to and 'flex disk'. (They did not mean the torc converter or the balancer at the front of the engine)

Does anyone know what a 'flex disk' could be????
