Arrow New Probelms w/ New Clutch???????

I have just finished my King Cobra Clutch install on my 88GT and am happy that i got it done finally. well after bolting everything back up to the car i started it and took it for a test drive and these are the probelms i came up wtih:

-The first this i noticed was the tapping in the rear of the car witch could be my mufflers but not sure.

-Second, was the idleing. B4 the install i would idle around 750rpm's very smoothly, and now it lopes really bad between 600 & 900 rpm's and constantly does it and its noticable when im driveing also. I was thinking maybe it could be a vaccum or something that i had to disconnect when taking off the exaust (i noticed a tube running on the left side of the exaust witch i thought was a vaccum???) But i cannot think what this could be.

-Third was the smoking and smell of something from the exaust witch i could not think what it was but smells wied and smokes out the exaust.

-Last was when i was driving it and got up to over 55 the shifter would start to shake really bad in 5th gear and i have no diea what this could be either.

All of these problems i cannot pin point solutions too and i need some help on as many of these probelms that any of you could help me with.

Bryan

1) Its possiable it's your mufflers. It happens to me every once and a while. I hate adjusting them.

2) I believe what you are talking about is the long metal tube that connects from the cats to the emissions stuff. I'm not possitive, but I think that could effect your idle. I took all that crap off my car, so I don't know.

3) It's possiable that some dirt/debri got in your exhaust tubes while it was off your car. It will smoke the first time out while it burns off. If it smokes more then that, there is something else wrong.

4) The only thing I could think it could be is the drive shaft.

As for your idle problem - I would suspect that this is the culprit.

Just slide under the car and make sure that everything is properly bolted up and back in order.

That tapping is likely your mufflers hitting the frame. Be sure that they aren't hitting the driveshaft, and producing the smoke you see.

I believe, though not 100% that that tube comes from the smog pump and injectes fresh air into the pipes to finish burning the fuel, etc. Reconnect that. You can used rubber hose if need to connect it to the hipe if you used a hacksaw like I did to cut it off.

Did you scribe a mark on the driveshaft to line it back up properly when you put it back on??? The driveshaft could be out of balance now.

Also, be sure that your u joints are ok. Make sure that all of the bolts connecting the bell to engine and bell to tranny are tight.

Lastly, did you resurfact the flywheel? Did you put it in back right and torque down properly??
