![]() Hello,
Does the 89 have the 85mph speedometer stock? Or is it the 160? Does the 89 Have pony wheels stock, or was it just a option that few bought? If I put in a shift-kit, would a auto be much slower than a stickshift? One last question. Who makes a good radar detector, and how well do they work? I would appreciate the help alot!

![]() 1989 is the first year of the 140mph speedo, not 160, those are in the 94-now Cobra, and the pony wheels were first introduced in 1991-93, GT's have the "turbine" wheels and the LX 5.0's have the 10 hole wheels, and all radar detectors suck. If you think about it, once there is new technology for radar detectors the cops have already got something better.

![]() Thanks for the info!
If anyone has any info on a auto w/a shift kit vs stick, let me know. By the way, are radar detectors completely worlthless? I would buy one if it just helped me out 1/3 of the time.

![]() I have an 89 convertible...
as for the radar detector... I have a cordless (battery) operated one.. and I havent used it in years...once you get gears you wont be driving as fast anyway.. I just gave up on it.. too many false alarms... it's liek a car alarm, after a while you start to ignore it as for the shift kit... with the stock engine you wont really feel much... the stock engine starts to loose power before it'll shift... once you start putting some mods on then it'll help out... the whole auto manual debate comes up a bit... I think with a more or less stock engine you'd be faster with the manual... but as you start to get some serious HP then the auto will give you more consistant times, cause it allways shifts at the same point and it shifts faster then a manual. -as
