police Fan clutch
Do any of the police guys know anything about the fan clutch on their stang? MIne is soooo loud I can't even hear the engine at high rpm's. It is always locked in unlike my 87 lx that locks in at a certain temp. THis big bad johny has got to be sucking up a lot of hp. Do your cars sound like they are getting ready for take off at 3500 rpm????

Thats bad, it takes horsepower, but also puts excessive wear on the water pump bearing. Get a new fan clutch, its easy to install, takes about 15 minutes.

The police fan clutch is supposed to work just like the stock fan clutch. If it was just meant to spin all of the time, it wouldn't be called a clutch. Replace that sucker, it must be defective.

It's gotta be toast, I've got the police fan clutch and it behaves like a regular one.

I think I am going to get a Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan. Anybody know how hard of an install that is? It is supposed to pull about 3500cfm, and it's only $100!!!!

The police fan clutch is supposed to disengage the fan at a lower engine speed than the stock clutch. If I remember right, this engine speed is 1800 RPM for the police clutch to disengage.

I have the 'police-duty' fan and it works great. Engages at a lower RPM and draws less HP as well as cooling better.

I've had bad luck with the police fan, probaly high mileage, but mine was loud, powerrobbing, and finally broke off, and puncured my radiator, i will only use an electric fan for now on, the night it broke i was down the street thank god....but it felt like it gained 10-15 hp .
