Post clutch adjustment?

I have the t5z 5 speed with a performance clutch, hurst shifter and adjustable cable and quadrant. I love the setup but there is one problem. I cant put it in first without either first without grinding unless I either 1. first put it into another gear to stop the main shaftor
2. have the car off. its the only gear that does this and the cable adjustment is maxed out. I like to go from say 4th to 3rd to hwlp with the slowing down chores, and all downshifts work with the exception of the 2nd down to 1st shift which will grind if I am still rolling. Why the heck is this? I know first has a syncro, but it acts just like reverse.

It's normal not to be able to shift to 1st while rolling. Downshifting like that is a bad idea anyway. Use your brakes. Pads are cheaper to replace than your transmission.

If you're out of adjustment room on your cable it is time to replace your clutch.

What do you mean when you say your cable is maxed out on adjustment? You can't loosen it any more?

the clutch cable has probably stretched.

downshifting to first is not a good idea.
