![]() I have a 87 gt with a t-5 and I am looking to go with an AOD manually shifted. I Know very little about AOD/AODE can someone tell me what the difference between the non lock up and the lock up type converters.

![]() The AOD's have a lock up coverter. Inside the torque converter is a clutch assy. that will lock it up for better fuel mileage and do away with the natural slippage a torque converter has.
A non-lockup converter doesn't have this feature. So there is always some slippage from the converter.

![]() The AODE's had lock-up converters. The AOD can be fitted with a non-electronic lock-up converter though. For performance applications, stay away from lock-up converters since they're substantially heavier than a non-lock-up.
