Post 83 mustang 5.0 with a 340 hp ford crate motor should I go carb or efi???

I have a 83 mustang 5.0 now and just put a new motor from ford in its a new 302 with 340 hp. My car is carb'd now but is it worth going to efi?? I do have the stuff for the conversion but im having second thoughts, ie a stock manifold upper and lower 19 lb injectors stock throttle and mass air and the new fuel tank? Will the stock EFI stuff perform better than a weiand stealth manifold and a 650 carb?? Just pickin you heads ???

I'd leave it carb. Is the Weiand Intake a single or dual plane?

Stay with the carb set-up.
Way cheaper and easier than a conversion to EFI.

Stay with the carb, you'd need a gt40 or equivalent intake, 65mm TB, 75mm mass air, all the sensors, not to mention you'd have to set up a fuel system, computer and a professional tuner to get the same performance as the carb setup you describe. If a carb is tuned properly then you can get decent mileage, I usually get about 15-17mpg city and 22-25mpg highway.

The swap would be worth it if you were going to go with a blower or a turbo but N/A there would be not much point.

Cool

carb'd is alot less of a headache, a bit easier to keep tuned, and less things to go wrong or break.....

just my opinion....

Howdy. I just did an EFI swap on my 84 (had same setup as your 83) which was somewhat of a headache grafting the EFI harness into the 84's. Lots of relocating to do such as battery, solenoid, radiator overflow, and some of the electrical system. The fuel lines bolted in on the existing fuel line mounting points. You will also have to find a different sender for the fuel gauge (83-86 style with electric fuel pump) or modify your existing one. I was going to do a write up of the swap but haven't gotten around to it yet. Feels like a totally different car. It was a fun project to do as well.

without a doubt carb. you will get the power with a carb real easy. and cheaper. your gas mileage will be the same if its tuned right. i got 17mpg on my car on the street. for that setup you will benifit best from a performer rpm intake and a 650 dp holley. a 600 vac sec. like everyone will surely sugest is not a good carb for that motor. invest in a good dist. like the msd. it will offer better tuning and is easier to use with the msd box.
if you do decide to go carb which will be the best choice for you, you can sell the injection conversion. i am looking for a mass air conversion so if you do sell it let me know and maybe i can make a good deal with you.
