![]() i would go with the 351w, its not as big or heavy , its got a whole lot more readily available performance parts, and it fits alot better. everything about the 351w is easier, however, some guys out there just love a challenge.no known 5 spd. i can think of, or aod for that matter. or headers for that combo that i have heard of.

![]() That 400 bellhousing pattern is the same as
the 429/460's. So any manual trans that fits those should work, incl Richmond 5 & 6 speeds, etc. The 400 can make some awesome torque and 400+ hp pretty easy, but real hi-po parts don't really exist, and there's more parts for the 351W if you're looking for 450 or more. Also, the 400 is hard to fit into many chassis, and would require custom headers. |

![]() I agree with macx. To a point. I think for your app. the 400BB is a waste of time. you could get 400 CI from a 351 with a stroker kit. and the engine would be lighter. If your have your mind set on a BB find a late model 460 or a 429<--a bit pricey... Lots available for those and will make tremendous power (stroked) Finding HiPo parts for a 400 is harder than finding hipo parts for a FE and I had a hell of a time when I built my last 406 (428 block w/390 crank)
