Question 3.73's...

How much does it cost to get a 3.73 ring and pinion installed professionally? It's a 90 LX 5.0

I paid about $175. for a very professional job by a guy who specializes in rear end work.

Figure anywhere from $125. to $250. depending on the shop and local labor rates.

A few phone calls will tell you what you need to know.

I live in N. VA and the two quotes I got for parts/install complete (shims, fluids, shop supplies, etc.) were $550 and $650. This seems steep, but if you want it done right - I guess you have to pay for it. I am not sure if these quotes included the speedometer gear swap (to offset the change in rear-gearing).

This was including the gears (about $190 - $200).

Exclamation

Correction:

The price I posted was for labor only. I paid $200. for the Ford Motorsport gearset.
The installer supplied gear oil and a few small parts. Total cost was $375.

I got a great deal from rear end specialties inc. I bought the gears on my own from summit for 189.
Got the speedo gear for 15 dollars from steeda....payed 220 for install+oil+extra bottle of friction moidifier. From what i have gatherd i got a good deal.....not great but good.....unless you live in some hick town in the middle of no where don't expect it any cheaper....i got quotes for 450 and 650 just for install!
