Post spark plugs

If i didnt have the right heat range on my spark plugs would it make it not be able to burn all the gas that is going to it and make it spit and sputter and high rpms????? B/c im getting sparks plug for a stock 2 barrel and i have a 4 barrel and a little work done to it, so what do i need for spark plugs???
