Got my $hit kicked

Okay, my car right now has 2.73's, headers, mufflers, and a KN filter, along with one passenger.

I pull up to this 87 LX on the highway doing about 75MPH and I am in 3rd. I pull even and he hits it a little before me and instantly puts 2 cars on me then very slowly pulls away until 120MPH. We get off the highway and go from a 35MPH(in 2nd) roll until 70MPH and he instantly pulls one car and maintains. I get beside him while driving and roll down the window. Get this! He says "Pick a different car next time buddy" I think you little ***** !

I figure if I ditched my buddy and the tank of gas reading past full, I would have kept him alot closer. Do you think that instant pull is from gears.
