Default Help with Steeda clutch stuff

Tomorrow I am going to install Steeda adj. cable w/ firewall adjuster and double hook quadrant. My SVO adj. cable and metal quadrant I have on there now suck a$$. It takes all I can legpress to engage the clutch and I have been driving on 2 strands-worth of cable because it frayed in the sheath. I belive i have figured out why: The rubber boot that attaches the cable to the firewall got craked allowing the cable to come into the firewall slightly. What a nightmare. Anyway, i would like some input from anyone who has had experience with these Steeda stuff, so this install may go smoothly. Note I have an SN-95 if that makes any difference here. One question i have particular is with the quadrant. It seems hard to get up above the pedal and replace it. Can someone give me some steps to take? Thanks.

I installed the Steeda adjustable cable, double hook quadrant, and firewall adjuster in my 88 about 5 months ago, and I love it. I don't really know how to tell you to make installation any easier due to the fact that I have no clue if SN95's are any different. Installation is a PITA only because you're working in an awkward space, but it's not really difficult other than that. If I remember correctly, the instructions tell you to use the lower hook when using the firewall adjuster and the upper one if not using the adjuster. I wound up using the opposite hook that was suggested in the instructions because the cable was too loose the other way. With an SN-95 car that may not be an issue. Basically common sense prevails. Good Luck and enjoy.

I have the same setup. Just follow the instructions and it'll go smoothly (heck, it could even if you don't). The only thing that might help would be to remove the driver's seat to give you more space to work in. That's my only suggestion. Whole thing took me about 45 minutes to do.

Thanks for your replys. The install went smooth but the clutch is even smoother! It's like butter and I love it! I guess I'm so happy cause I've been driving around forever on a broken clutch cable till now. Now I won't be a freak anymore with one leg muscle bigger than the other . I did remove the drivers seat and I had to use the first hook, but I have so much adjustment between the adj. cable, double hook, and firewall adj. Thats cool too. I do have one major concern tho...

The stock ford plastic quadrant had a spring next to it on that clutch pedal shaft. That spring on an extended piece of the stock quadrant took up about 1/2" on the shaft. Now with the steeda quadrant (and also my old SVO one), there is empty space there and the quadrant moves side to side. That to me is not good since the quadrant sits off center and when a load (your foot) is applied to it, an uneven torque is placed on the shaft. The cable is pulled sideways somewhat too.

Basically I'm concerned about this because my old SVO quadrant was so off-center, the cable actually tore through the metal. Maybe that's how the old cable broke?? Does anyone know of any spacers that are supposed to be put in the shaft to prevent this, cause that's really all it needs. Ok and sorry for the long reply.

Here is a pic of what I'm talking about. Notice the gap between the quadrant and cotter pin. The quadrant is able to move from one side to other

Mine is the same way. You can put some shims up there. It wouldn't hurt. I only have about 200 miles on mine and it works great. The firewall adjuster is the way to go.
