Default air/fuel gauge

I just installed an air/fuel guage for my nitrous and I cant seem to get the guage to read. Now, I was told to tie the sender wire to one of the white wires off of the 02 sensor on the left drivers side. I tried to tie the wire to both white wires and even the black wire on BOTH sides and nothing would work. Could I have a faulty 02 sensor, is the wire bad? I'm not sure what the problem is, so need I need some help. Thanks
