Wow,
I would change brands or at least install a guage on your heater core lines that is unusual. I would have some concerns about that for sure. You might drill a small hole in your thermostat and thry and relieve some of the pressure that way. I would try a different brand first stay with a big name company like stant or gates. It should hold about 15 or so pounds pressure. Most radaitor caps are rated around that pressure for relief..
I know that on the later model engines ford installed a metal tube but it served many other purposes, like providing protection because of heat and moving parts.
