The aluminum driveshaft is bigger around than the factory driveshaft. I have the same safety loop and mine mounted just like you described.
If it is scraping the mounting bolts I would try grinding down the head of the bolts to gain clearance. Before I drilled more holes in my car I would cut and modify the safety loop.
