I've also got the non lock-up unit and have been fairly satisfied.

However, I've talked with different guys who will tell you different things. Some say, if you've got enough power in the mid rpm ranges, a lock up in 3rd will actually help you get down the track faster by giving you a one to one connection and eliminating the power lost in slippage and heat. You've just got to have the power to pull through it.
