You can do it if you have access to the following tools, A dial indicator with magnetic base (for measuring the backlash),a pinion depth gauge (I bought mine from tommy johnson motorsports $100) and a torque wrench that measures in inch pounds as low as 0 to 20. However this is not something for the weak at heart!
