I've got a thin metal (Auto Zone-type) fan and it works good enough.
I haven't dealt much w/ going from pulley fan to electric fan so my help is limited.

The fan does its biggest contribution in cooling when the car is at lower speeds. So it doesn't seem like it has the cooling capacity it needs to keep the radiator cool enough in stop and go traffic. Maybe the electric fan isn't coming on when it should.

Have you tried to crank it in your yard and let it run in 'park' for a while to see if it overheats b4 the fan comes on? If the temp shoots up and the electric fan doesn't come on, that would be a problem.

This is all considering that it was doing fine b4 the switch to the electric fan. Just some thoughts.
