Ive only seen this once, but my friend tightened his intake so much that it pulled the heads up a little and his head gaskets started to leak. Like i said This is very unlikely because you really gotta crank down on the intake to do that !!!!!!!!! I still cant believe that he did that but it actually happend.
I believe it, too. The first 302 I rebuilt, I was putting an Edelbrock Performer manifold on. Well...me being naive, reading the torque specs as 18-22ft.lbs., I thought, "well, if 22 is good, then 35 must be better!" WRONG-O!!! The coolant just freakin' sprayed into the valley. I blamed the Evil RTV god for a long time, then I found out, oops, you can't torque the intake all that tight after all. Live and learn. I've found "wrist tight" to be adequate. I know, that's about as UNscientific and INconsistent as it gets, however I haven't had a single failure since using this method. Mebbe I have a torque wrench built into my arms, I dunno. Okay, me stop ramblin'.
