For what it's worth,my dad blew a head gasket on his 3.8 liter 88Thunderbird.When he took the head off on the side that the head gasket blew,the piston that was close to where the head gasket blew was completely spotless,the rest were "normal"

Our thinking was,the anti-freeze washed all everything off the cylinder where the headgasket blew.
