I am running a blackmagic fan in my 91 GT with the stock altenator.
It is also hard wired in so it will continue to run to cool the car down after the car is off. I also have a standard battery. I have been running this setup for about a year and have had no problems with it. Can't hear it when the engine is running. Maybe you had an altenator that wasn't working correctly or a battery that had been fried.
