You have install speakers with more power handeling capacity. No problem. But I wouldn't upgrade just amps and leave the stock speakers.

If you want a little more bass I would add a nice 10" or 12" subwoofer with a 300-400 rms watt amp.

Kicker Comp VR's, Alpine Type R's, and Adire Audio Shiva's are some good subs that don't cost that much

For a amp I like, the JBL BP series amps. Kicker, MTX, JL Audio, and Rockford Fosgate make good amps too.
