True, they arent always an immediate gain, but once you learn how to launch with them, you will improve your times.

My car (when still an AOD) went like 15.4 stock with 2.73 gears, then dropped over a half second with just the addition of the 3.73's.

All on the same 225/60 street tires

Dark_5.0, how did you 60ft's compare before and after the gears?
