It;s been a while since i've messed with my carb but there's two types of ports on those things.. I have an edelbrock but it's the same thing... infact it says carter on the side... anyway.. there's full vacuum and TIMED vacuum ... I think that's what they call it... in anycase you want the timed vacum that doesnt activate until the carb is at a certain throttle position and therefor doesnt give you the advance till you need it... cause the distibuter should have mechanical advance as welll.

Most other vacuum devices will use full manifold vacuum.... brake booster, AC/Heat Controls, etc...
