Well, special tools really help. However, I changed my first pump without 'em.
I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I removed the clips with a set of needlenose and a couple of screwdrivers. Just take it easy, slow, and don't break anything.  Sorry this doesn't help much, but I know it can be done. --nathan
