![]() That depends on the maker of the pistons. Yes hypereutectics are weaker than forged,and the don't like detonation. Also, with pistons such as Keith Black, the ring gap is more critical. They recommend a bit larger gap for nitroused applications to eliminate a problem they had with blowing ring lands off. However, if set up right (make sure your engine builder knows his stuff) and if the car is properly tuned, the hypers will hold up. Just look at all of the almost stock 96+ mustangs out there running blowers and spray.
Anyway, the short answer is if you can possibly afford it, go for the forged. Hypers could work, but I know that you will have better peace of mind going forged. I wish I did. --nathan
