i say don't convert to the new 134A!!! it just plain sucks! the old R12 blows soo much colder. i just had the conversion done and i hate it! the only time it blows cold is when i'm on the highway.
You must have done something wrong, or some component in your system is malfunctioning, dude. I converted to R134a on my '87 LX if for nothing else the cost, not to mention the environmental aspects. You don't have to just be registered to buy R12, you have to be CERTIFIED to buy it. It's about $30 for a 12oz can of R12 now, and only $6 for R134a. Can you really justify paying 5 times the price for an outdated, environmentally harmful refrigerant?

The kits are even easier than O-rings to install. It goes something like this. Take it to an approved automotive refrigeration specialist to be evacuated and have vacuum applied. The vacuum will do two things: 1. Let you know if the system will even hold the new refrigerant, and 2. Remove any water in the system, a/c's number one enemy. Next put on the coversion valve pieces and fill the system with everything in the conversion kit. Basically, follow the directions. You should now have cold air.
